Achieving improved outcomes in introductory programming through interactivity and autograding

Introductory programming is often the "make or break" course for computing/engineering majors, and is a difficult required course for non-majors. Poor grades in this course contribute to attrition, and cheating consumes instructor and TA time. zyBooks and our academic partners are exploring ways to facilitate better outcomes for these students. This session introduces the animated, interactive approach to learning from zyBooks, summarizes our research findings for a new approach to “many-small” programming labs, and facilitates discussion on how zyBooks might work with engineering departments to further improve student outcomes.
