The Cadence Academic Network is a worldwide web of experts in the education, usage, and development of EDA software. The Academic Network works directly with academic institutions based on their requirements and their profile. The network co-organizes trainings, workshops, and technology days with universities, provides professional services, helps with educational materials, and provides access to the latest Cadence technologies.

Patrick Haspel
Head of Global Academic Partnerships and University Programs

Dr. rer.-nat. Patrick R. Haspel is the Head of Global Academic Partnerships and University Programs at Cadence Design Systems Inc. Patrick joined Cadence in 2005 and started the university program at Cadence EMEA in 2007. The aim of Cadence Academic Network was promote the proliferation of leading-edge technologies and methodologies at universities renowned for their engineering and design excellence. Up until 2014, Patrick was responsible for strategic initiatives with universities, research institutes and government funded projects in EMEA. In 2015, Patrick moved to the Cadence Corporate Headquarters in San Jose, CA and has taken on a global role at managing Cadence‘s partnerships with academia and its university programs.

Patrick received his Diploma in Computer Engineering from the University of Mannheim, Germany, in 2000 and his doctoral degree from the University of Mannheim in 2006.

Cadence is a leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) and semiconductor intellectual property (IP). Our custom/analog tools help engineers design the transistors, standard cells, and IP blocks that make up systems on chip (SoCs). Our digital tools automate the design and verification of giga-scale, giga-hertz SoCs at the latest semiconductor processing nodes. Our IC packaging and PCB tools permit the design of complete boards and subsystems. Cadence also offers a growing portfolio of design IP and verification IP for memories, interface protocols, analog/mixedsignal components, and specialized processors. In 2007, we founded the Cadence® Academic Network with the aim to promote the proliferation of leading-edge technologies and methodologies at universities renowned for their engineering and design excellence. A knowledge network among selected universities, research institutes, industry advisors, and Cadence facilitates the sharing of technology expertise in the verification, design, and implementation of microelectronic systems.
