Mind the Gap! Building Industry Readiness in Control Education

We've taught the control course largely in the same way since the 1950's, yet the application world of control systems have become one of the most important fields in modern engineering. Today, control encompasses more than the traditional framework of classic or state space control. Modern control applications are intimately related to mechatronics and embedded systems, robotics, and more. The control context offers us and our students, so many teaching moments to bring engineering to life. Sadly though, many institutions are struggling to break free of the traditions of control teaching. This spotlight will show Quanser's recent work in transforming a humble DC servomotor into an engaging and industry-relevant framework for Control, Robotics, Mechatronics, and Embedded programming (CRoME).
