ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT HEADS ASSOCIATION

July 2014

Letter from the Editor

Pritpal Singh

Dear ECEDHA Members, Industry Partners, and Colleagues,

Welcome to the July 2014 issue of the ECE Source. I hope that you are taking a little time to decompress during the summer and reflect on the past year as well as start planning for the new academic year.

I am pleased to serve as the editor for this issue of the ECE Source which is focused on the topic of Cybersecurity and builds on the well-attended breakout panel session held at the ECEDHA Annual Conference in March. There are three feature articles focused on an undergraduate curriculum, a graduate curriculum, and an aerospace industry paper. The undergraduate curriculum article describes a unique multi-disciplinary program being offered at the University of Maryland. It includes a living-learning community and students from different majors all around campus. I think that you will find this program very interesting.

The second article by Dr. Rick Perry of Villanova University describes a graduate program in Cybersecurity that was launched in Fall 2013. The Master’s program structure and courses being offered are described as well as faculty expertise contributing to the program.

Finally, Faye Francy who served on the panel session at the ECEDHA Annual Conference has provided an article describing the approach to securing airline information. Originally published in the Air Traffic Control journal, this article provides a framework and strategy for securing airline information. This is clearly a very important application area of Cybersecurity.

Have a relaxing and productive summer and we look forward to communicating with you again in the fall.

Warmest regards,

Pritpal Singh
